Marco Rubio Defended GOP Platform That Included Support For Abortion Ban Without Rape Or Incest Exceptions.
According to a Pro-Life News article entitled, Marco Rubio Defends GOP Pro-Life Platform From Media Attacks, “Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” the GOP was “the home of the pro-life movement in American politics” but added that that doesn’t mean the party is anti-woman. ‘This is not an issue about denying anyone rights,” said Rubio. “This is an issue about protecting the rights of a human being to live — irrespective of what stage in development they may be. “I think what’s important to understand, yes, Mitt Romney is pro-life and the Republican Party, although it has diversity on this issue, is the home of the pro-life movement in American politics.” And, according to The Hill, “A day after Democrats blasted the Republican Party’s official party platform on abortion as the “Akin plank,” the author of the party’s position on abortion is pushing back by arguing that the party doesn’t say whether or not exemptions for rape and incest should be allowed in its push for a ban.” [Pro-Life News, 8/27/12; The Hill, 8/22/12]
