Treadwell Believed “Abortion Should Only Be Allowed If Both the Mother And Baby Would Otherwise Die.”
According to Alaska Public Radio Network, “Mead Treadwell says the issue is personal with him. ‘My mom got pregnant in college. Abortion was available then, but I stand in front of you today because mom and dad chose life, and I thank God every day that she did,’ Treadwell said. Treadwell says abortion should only be allowed if both the mother and baby would otherwise die. Dan Sullivan says he would allow a rape and incest exception.” [Alaska Public Radio Network, 8/4/14]
Treadwell Said He Supported Legislation “That Supports The Definition Of Life Beginning At Conception.”
According to KTUU, “George Taylor of Anchorage wanted to know what the GOP hopefuls think of the Life at Conception Act, a bill that would do what its title suggests – define life as beginning at the moment of conception. Joe Miller, the 2010 Republican nominee for Senate, described the bill as his top priority. […] Former Attorney General Dan Sullivan and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell each described their own similar beliefs. ‘I’m pro-life, born and raised a Catholic,’ Sullivan said. He mentioned his three teenage daughters. ‘You see the ultrasounds and the kids growing up, you understand the sanctity of life. ‘I don’t think life is a men’s issue or a women’s issue,’ Treadwell said. ‘It’s an issue for all of us.’ Both men conceded, however, that they had not read Paul’s proposal. Miller said that is ‘telling.’ ‘The Life at Conception Act has been out for months,’ Miller said. ‘The fact that neither of my opponents are willing to stand up and say today that they’ll support it I think is telling,’ Miller said. Treadwell pushed back: ‘I beg your pardon, I will support legislation that supports the definition of life beginning at conception,’ the lieutenant governor said.” [KTUU, 4/25/14]
Treadwell Supported Defunding Planned Parenthood.
According to a survey released by the Alaska Family Action Group, Treadwell answered Yes to the question, “Would you support the Title X. Abortion Provider Prohibition Act introduced in the 133th Congress (S. 135/H.S. 61/ H.R. 217) that would prohibit federal funding of all abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood?” [Alaska Family Action Questionnaire, Candidates for U.S. Senate & U.S. Rep. 2014 Election, 6/24/14]
