Lee Supported A Nationwide Abortion Ban Bill.

According to Congressional Documents And Publications, “Ironically, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), the Senate sponsor of the D.C. abortion ban bill, initially said he could not support a nationwide abortion ban bill because it would violate ‘states’ rights,’ although he later came around.” [Congressional Documents And Publications, 12/26/13]

Lee Introduced A Resolution That Resolved “Congress And States Should Gather Information About And Correct Abusive, Unsanitary, And Illegal Abortion Practices.”

A Mike Lee official press release said, “Today Senator Mike Lee introduced a resolution calling on the Senate to review public policies that led to the illegal abortion practices of Dr. Kermit Gosnell and others.  The resolution, which has 10 original cosponsors, resolves ‘Congress and States should gather information about and correct abusive, unsanitary, and illegal abortion practices and the interstate referral of women and girls to facilities engaged in dangerous or illegal second- and third-trimester procedures.’” [Mike Lee Official Press Release, 5/16/13]

Lee Wanted To Ban Abortion In The District Of Columbia After 20 Weeks Of Pregnancy And Opposed Exceptions For Victims Of Rape Or Incest.

According to Raw Story, “Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah has filed an amendment to the Senate cyber security bill that would ban abortion in the District of Columbia after 20-weeks of pregnancy. The legislation is identical to a bill defeated in the House on Tuesday. Pro-life Republicans argued that abortion should be outlawed after 20-weeks of pregnancy because fetuses are able to feel pain at that point — a highly disputed claim. Under the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, doctors who performed an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy could face up to two years in prison. The law would not make exceptions for cases of rape or incest.” [Raw Story, 8/1/12]
